A great opportunity to practice your goal half marathon pace. Should be a good confidence booster a few weeks out from your goal half.

2 more big half marathon sessions before HHM to influence what happens on race day. You got this.

😁 Good pace given the conditions/route

PACE

We did the Hastings HM route but up Battle Road rather than up Queensway. Of course the first half is mostly uphill and the back end is mostly downhill so my splits reflect this and don’t really reflect the effort I was putting in up Battle Road. My finish time was 1 hr 46’ so respectable with an average pace of 8’06” per mile which is more or less my Marathon pace. I was really tired at the end and took many minutes to recover and was still pretty drained the rest of the day. A good run with great company but both myself and Kev Davis were feeling our years at the end. To be fair Jack is 31 and Kimberly is 28 so we aren’t doing too badly. Rest and recover.

It’s always going to be tough to hit consistent splits on a route like that but I do appreciate the benefit of training with the group. I think in hindsight, the best approach here, would have been to drop me a message and remind me you were running with them and on the HHM route and I can then tweak the session slightly. But sounds like it was a really strong run with the effort put in and the fact, as you say, you’re able to run with those youngsters is further proof of just how well you are doing. Excellent work Conal.
