Never Again? Famous Last Words

Never Again? Famous Last Words
I'm glad I did the Beachy Head marathon 2 years ago. Did I enjoy it? Well have you seen the video? There was a reason Sweary Simon came out to play that day.  That race chewed me up and spat me out. Never again.

It does give me that perspective on just how brutal that course is. To combine it with shocking conditions, must have been horrendous. I've heard reports that the wind was gusting so strong, it was lifting runners off their feet, on the edge of a cliff.

You can pretty much ignore what the clock says. Beachy Head is my slowest ever marathon. Over 5 hours and that was in calm dry conditions, 90 mins more than I ran at Chester for my next attempt at 26.2 miles.

And the longer you spend out there that harder it becomes. This is why I have so much respect for the Team who all managed to bravely battle their way around the course and across the finish line. Rebecca (6:46:28), Amy (6:52:23), Ellie (7:33:10), Sue (7:42:42) and Jo (7:49:56).

A superb effort by all 5, who I'm pretty sure have decided against the 2027 Early Bird Offer, which was included in their result text message from the organisers.

They weren't the only Team Orange members in marathon action over the weekend. Allan ran his quickest for some time, clocking 4:23:07 at Battersea Park on Saturday. 1st in his age category (I won't mention how many there were), but also 30 minutes quicker than the London GFA time, which highlights just what a stronger runner Allan is.

One member of the Team who wasn't regretting his race entry decisions was Kevin. He flew to Venice and was greeted with conditions, described as mild and dry. Having struggled at Boston earlier in the year with a hamstring injury, he showed his determination to bounce back and run 3:48:23 yesterday, giving everything he had, right to the finish line.

We had one more runner in action, Patrick, who opted for the 10k at Beachy Head, good choice Patrick, good choice. He came across the line in an impressive time of 54:41.

Yet another great weekend for the team who continue to inspire. If you ever hear me talking about the possibility of running the Beachy Head Marathon again, you have permission to slap me.
