Hastings 5 Miler

LOAD: 380

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

5 Miles @ 5 Mile Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

Early forecast is lush 🤞 This should be a great race and a chance to bag another PB. My trusty pace sheet is saying just under 6 min miling for a sub 30 here. Remind yourself that you come into this in top form, but still important to get that early pace right.

Target Pace: 5:57 Target Time: 29:45

Listened and adjusted the pace according to the weather. Warmed up well and then it seemed to fly by. Sat behind D mills into the wind But decided not to go with him on the way back as didn’t want to blow Up. The only thing that was a little frustrating is I felt I had more in the tank but that could be the marathon brain talking. Averaged some good miles! Felt strong and confident. Learnt a lot from it. Maybe should have gone 6:05 a mile rather 6:10. But I can’t be annoyed in that wind and then heat. I doubt you’ll see more even splits!

Just looked at the splits. An absolute thing of beauty given the conditions. I think if you run a race like that where you feel strong, you’re always going to ask that question, could I have gone quicker. I felt similar, but the margins are always so fine. What we should be thinking is I know I can faster in the future. So we celebrate a really well executed race and look ahead and getter better. I think this is fine example of what a good runner you’ve become from a strategy point of view and no doubt the pacing you’ve done has helped that. Awesome running Jack.
