INTRODUCING COACH SIMON

Hi, my name is Simon. I’m an online running coach based in Hastings, East Sussex, UK. Often when you land on these running websites the coach will impress with you their amazing running achievements and how they won their country x-country Championships and went on to pull on a GB vest at senior level.

Sadly you won’t get any bold claims like that on this site. I was terrible at X-Country. I hated it in fact! I didn’t even start running until I was 35 and two years later I nearly gave up because I was getting slower and slower.

I don’t know what it’s like to run a sub 15 minute 5k or represent my country. But I know what it feels like struggling at the back of a group, finish 2nd last in a race and even be mocked for my lack of ability. I’ve had those experiences, they weren’t pleasant, but I dusted myself off and started to train smarter.

I reduced my 5k time from 33 minutes to 19.28. 10K from 1:04:00 to 40:52 and my Marathon time from 4:44 to 3:40. I’ve been coaching with Hastings Runners for 3 years on a weekly basis. I have my LIRF, CIRF and Level 3 Endurance qualifications through England Athletics. 

My aim is to help as many runners enjoy the amazing journey I have been on. One which has seen my fitness and mental health improve significantly over the past 5 years.
