Hastings 5 Miler

LOAD: 380

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

5 Miles @ 5 Mile Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

I’m reluctant to set you targets here because that seems a little unfair given the circumstances. But to give you some ideal, Jodie’s target is fractionally quicker than your target pace on my trusty spreadsheet, whilst Mark has exactly the same right now. He’s a very good judge of pace too, so perhaps someone just to keep an eye on, although something tells me you could perhaps go quicker. The most important thing at this stage of the new plan is to enjoy yourself. It will be tough at times with a high effort level, but run tall & proud, with a smile on your face and it should be a great day. Very best of luck Su. Happy to give you a target pace and time if you would prefer.

Always a great feeling this race, course PB by just under a minute, last year was around 49, 48 the year before. I had these in mind. I feel a bit bad, as Lou was hoping we’d stick together, but she wasn’t far behind. It was also good when 2 people thanked me for keeping them going! Would love to have been at the 9:11 pace of my first mile throughout, but thankful for what I achieved. Well done to you! And team bimble ( including Jamie), another good round of PBs and top effort. Jamie,Caitlin and I finished the day with another sea swim, although a tad windy!! Any tips on not retching at the end?

Fabulous running Su. It brings me so much joy that you’re running close to your best, given the obstacles you continue to battle. That testament to your commitment to your fitness and you should be so proud of yourself. To hear you’re helping others as well is lovely. Someone said that to me post race that what I’m doing is inspiring and that means more than any race time. Thank you by the way, very pleased. Retching? It’s not something I’ve experienced yet, I guess it shows you’re working hard, perhaps a slight change in pre race nutrition might be the key.
