LOAD: 45

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10.3km @ HM – Marathon Pace (RPE: 6-9)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Hard to set a pace given the elevation. A tough route but a great race. Can be done as an easy run if you prefer. VIEW THE ROUTE.

I’ll give you the same advice I have for most of the team, sit back a little at the start and conserve some energy for laps 2 and 3. If you can kick on in the 2nd half of the race while others are struggling it will be a far more enjoyable run. Good luck. A decent race for you and I think it will go well.

Sorry I ignored the plan as I like going fast on the decent, most put the breaks on whereas I just wear trail shoes and lean forward and open my stride. I conserved energy on the first climb and hung on. 28 secs slower than last year but I don’t think I’d recovered from Sunday. Really enjoyed running with Steve the first km.

No worries, I understand it in this race as that 1st km is a good opportunity to bank some time. I did the same myself to be honest. I’m not sure why I was 90 seconds slower than last year too, which doesn’t reflect my current level of fitness. I think those of us near the front were a bit hampered by the lack of strength in depth in this race, finding ourselves running solo in laps 2/3 and that can make a big difference. Still shows you’re very close and I’m sure you’ll see improvements going forward. Excellent running George.
