150 Mins – Long Run

LOAD: 46

150 Mins @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3-5)

All about time on feet. Don’t focus on pace. Instead keep that effort level down and concentrate on good running economy. Fuelling and hydration key too.

On the dashboard it looks like a lot the week before the ultra. But looking at the bigger picture it’s 5 runs in 14 days pre race, and all of them easy.  This being the longest one.

Bashed out a hilly 24km (split into two as annoyingly I finished the run when on pause by accident). Road first then a load of really nice trails to Westfield, then more trails until getting back closer to town. 599m in total in my old On Cloudultras, they still perform well on hybrid terrains. No major niggles, I was tired and it was a little warm but nothing really bothered me except the shitting brambles and ‘thistle city’ which was uncomfortable! Tested out my new hydration bladder in the new vest (with insulating sleeve) – worked fine, think I’ll go this route for the Serpent.

Good to try out some race kit in training and some decent elevation in there. Hopefully we’ve found the right balance in recent weeks with the training and if you drop that pace enough on race day I see no reason why this will be any more challenging than the Fox (famous last words). Well done Sam.
