Bewl 15

LOAD: 70

15 Miles @ Goal Pace (RPE: 4-8)

A tough race with some tricky hills at the end. The main decision here is whether it’s going to be an easy long run or a hard race?

I remember thinking, ah 15 miles, that’s just a half plus 2. Wrong. Well right in terms of numbers, wrong in terms of difficulty. Because of the bumpy underfoot conditions and hills after 10 miles, this is a tough race. So the best advice is set off at a nice easy pace, saving your energy for the end. If you can run the whole thing then that would be a great achievement given the hills come when the legs are tired. But not a race to be glancing at what pace you are running or what your finish time is. Very best of luck Michelle.

Hotter than expected- wore the wrong shoes. With rain early morning I debated right to the last min and went with a very old pair but like new salmons off road 😩 they were not needed at all and were far to tight on my right foot. From mile 3 it was numb but throbbing. I just knew I had to solder through and get on with it 😊 and I did. They came off with lightning speed as soon as I finished. Aside from this I am absolutely made up with how this went. It showed I have really improved my endurance to be able to run the miles but also for a much longer time without stopping. I checked the times on Hastings runners of my 2 times I done this previously and my best of the 2 was 3hrs 15 mins in 2019 so I have to take so much positivity from this with a 23 min PB. No not quick by many peoples standards but a great improvement. I really enjoyed this and really feel I could have gone much quicker if it wasn’t for the pain in my foot and the wrong foot wear. Can’t thank you enough for my training plans and for keeping me going each week as I know without doubt this is the main reason I completed this today as I did. The last couple of miles were tough as we all know but all in all a lovely run at Bewl 😊

Love this feedback. Really pleased this race went so well despite the shoe choice. I think there is a lesson there and personally I think in future taking 2 pairs and doing a quick check of the course beforehand (if possible) is a good move. I did that with the Alan Corke and it was obvious trail shoes were not needed. But it is a very easy mistake to make. I did the opposite last year when it was slippery, wore road shoes and couldn’t stand up 🤦‍♂️ You’ve done great so far on the plan Michelle so should be super proud of of yourself. I’m writing this having already glanced at your message about the injury, so we need to be careful of that and obviously take a few days, if not longer to recover. But a fantastic improvement on the last time you ran this race.
