Barry Richards 10K

LOAD: 45

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
4-8 Strides x 100 Metres (RPE: 8)

10K @ 10K Pace (RPE: 7)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

An excellent opportunity to run a fast 10K. As with any 10k, be sure not to go off too fast, lots of the other runners will be, so settle into your target pace early on and then really dig deep after the turnaround.

Every reason to be confident heading into this based on your recent 5k times. 5:45 per km is a good target for this one and it’s important not to go off quicker than that. The first few kms at that pace might feel quite comfortable, but that’s the point, come kms 7-9 it will feel hard to maintain that pace. So get it right at the start and you’ll run a really good race here. Very best of luck Jodie. You got this!!

I didn’t pick up on the pace you set for this one however I met it and raised the stakes to 5:43! So bloody proud of this race (excuse my language) but to run for a full year so now redoing races and see 9minutes less than last year is just out of this world. I lined up thinking do I aim for the sub hour that I wanted and googled average pace for or was it unrealistic and I just run for the fun. I set off and from step one it all just clicked. I felt great and like it was normal/natural, even managed a smile when thanking the Marshalls. Getting much more below this time might be difficult so maybe a sub 55 to aim for next although part of me now wants a sub 50 🙈 it’s too addictive

So pleased to how proud you are of your achievements and every reason to be. You’ve done great. I think there’s a lot of potential with your running because if you continue to improve we can raise the stakes more in terms of the training. You’re currently working at 100pts per week. Some of the team are up at 150. I’m not suggesting we ever get to that level, but it shows the room for progression. If your next plan was 110pts you’d improve further. It’s only when you reach your limit in terms of training that the times will plateau. Plus if you are able to continue on your weight loss journey as well, that’s only going to make you faster. I think it’s just important to take it one step at a time and not to be in hurry as the most enjoyable stage is this one when you’re seeing those improvements. Trust me when you plateau it’s not as much fun. Congrats on your PB Jodie. Fantastic running!
