120 Mins

LOAD: 36

120 Mins @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Long runs are a crucial part of any plan. You’ll need to do these to improve. Again running with a group can really help. Be sure to hydrate and fuel.

😁 Good pace given the conditions/route

PACE

Went on my first Sussex Trail Runners organised group runs, 30 of us from Rock A Nore to Rye. Sounded great. But… group that size is a lot of people, and the mix of speeds meant that we were waiting a lot for the tailrunners… waiting MINUTES at a time so it was very stop/start and slow. Great route and nice group of people but the frustration started to build as we just wanted to get on with it. Also, dogs. I like dogs. But… loose dogs around your feet when navigating tricky terrain was not always fun. We did less than 9km in the first 90 minutes, of that, only 60mins was moving time! As I ran from home my total distance was 23.5km. Abandoned the group at Winchelsea with a few others as we were not going to make the train from Rye, and the one after was cancelled so it would have meant getting home 2 hours later than planned! Not cool. My pace was slow overall but I worked now and then to get a workout in. No niggles.

I did see your Strava and was intrigued to read the feedback about this one. I like the idea, but as you say, it only really works if the speed of the group is similar. Glad you didn’t have to hang around at Rye station for hours, so at least you managed to avoid that scenario. These things are worth trying though and you never know what might come out of.
