Rye Ancient Trails 15K

LOAD: 50

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

15K @ Target Pace (RPE: 4-8)

A really great event, one of my favourites. And the 15k option is ideal for anyone a little nervous about the full distance. I can highly recommend this.

I like this switch up. Just a chance to practice all the race prep etc. Really we should be going with race day kit. I know that means wearing the England vest which might look a tad pretentious but it’s the smart thing to do. I let you decide on that πŸ˜‚ Will be good to see where the fitness is compared to this time last year, although I suspect after the recent downfall conditions might be quite a bit trickier, so bear that in mind if making those comparisons.

πŸ™„ Just a fraction slow

Went out fairly hard with Ashley felt ok but that first hill off the road puts ya back in ya place pretty quick πŸ˜†. Settled into a good effort level then hit the first ploughed field and realised this is not going to be quick today, was really soft in places and abit slick. Left calf got a bit tight at about mile 5 so I started to ease off a bit I waited for Ashley at peasmarsh as I had left him going up the hill and wanted to keep him company till the split point, ended up with blisters at mile 6 which wasnt good either. The calf started to get tighter on the last decent out of peasmarsh so at that point I knew I was in top stop without risk of dropping a place so I backed out and just ran steady for the rest of the race and enjoyed the finish line, hopefully tomorrow the leg will be ok and next weeks training goes well.

To run that time and the fact you did it relatively comfortable is so impressive. Nice to offer a big of support to Ash as well, those little gestures make a big difference. I think actual race day will be different because you know once that’s done and dusted you can take a nice long break. So if the calf does play up, you can keep pushing. But I think this is a sign all is going to be fine in 2 weeks time, and given you almost matched last year time, in tougher conditions, and running a lower effort highlights you’re fitness is still peaking right now. Grat work Steve.
