60 Mins & Strides

LOAD: 22

60 Mins @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2-3)

8 x 100 metre Strides (RPE: 8)
60 Second Recoveries

Best done in a group!! Keep the RPE down, so you should be able to chat. Don’t forget those strides. They are very important. Enjoy.

Plenty of the recommended chatting on Steve’s run, although I ran the hills which meant a bit of effort. As the group headed back inland from Warrior Square, I turned to run towards home and incorporated my strides at km 6, which I did in 4.06 mins. Then I wondered if it was cheating to do them mid-run? Anyway, I must have done 9 x just over 100 metres for the strides, as I was having to guess the distance as my watch went onto wrong setting. Felt powerful and upbeat doing strides. FEEDBACK FROM SPORTS PHYSIO SESSION. He was newly trained, only 19, obviously knew his stuff and clearly enjoyed the career path he’d chosen. He did not really help me understand why the pains at back of legs might be occurring. (Actually they had disappeared a day or two before the session and reappeared AFTER he’d worked on my legs! But that’s prob normal.) However, he did recommend including a couple of weighted exercises and I need to check that with you. Goblet squat and Romanian dead lift both with kettle bell. What do you think coach? He did not suggest number of reps. Another query – I’ve rescheduled this week because of being in Budapest – do you think it’s better to leave out S&C tomorrow, day before Rye Ancient Trails?
Sarah Marzaioli
Hi Sarah, well done on this run and including the strides. Mid run is probably not as good as post run, but equally it’s better than not getting them done (sounds like a riddle). We can definitely include those exercises in the S&C. Leave it with me and I will get them added. I would advise skipping the S&C today before the Rye Ancient Trails, or you could reduce the load and do a lighter session, less reps and less weights.
