Plan 6 – Week 5

Coming off the back of the calf strain and not having done a decent long run in more three weeks, today was always going to be a challenge and it proved just too much of a challenge.  Just didn’t have the mileage under my belt for R-H.

Welcome your thoughts on me running the HHM? Plan was always to run HHM as a training run but after today were I only managed  7.5miles / 90 mins and went off conservatively. I’d like to run it but am in two minds. If hadn’t had the sweep on my shoulder for the last half mile, I probably would have continued jeffing up to the Barley Lane and made it.  Which makes we think the HHM is do-oable as the HHM hills are front loaded and there are more downs for recovery before more ups. Also it’s on tarmac and there will be a big train of slower runners before the sweep catches me…

Calf – still doing the exercises as per physio and seems okay. It’s just not used to the mileage.

COACH

I think Saturdays run will be a better indication of your fitness ahead of HHM. As long as we don’t damage the calf any further I don’t see it being a problem. Take as long as you need and have that awareness that it’s not something we’ve been training for. So then there is no expectation or pressure on running a specific time and you can walk as many of the hills as you want to. Obviously the sweep didn’t help Sunday and I can understand why that was unsettling and as you say, HHM will be very different, especially with so many HRs in tow. But for now I’m happy it’s in the schedule, but we can discuss again post Saturdays long run as that will give us a better idea.
