Rye to Hastings

LOAD: 65

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

12 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

3 Races in 1. 9km of flat through the nature reserve and tricky Sea Wall. Nothing quicker than half marathon pace through this section. Then comes the climb, take your time and walk where needed. The finish from the top of Barley Lane is great fun, let yourself go and you could be running anywhere between 5-10k pace down the hill.

FEEDBACK

ENJOYMENT

RPE

👊 Nailed my target

PACE

Smashed it! So happy with that one. I set myself a fairly conservative target of being 1 minute a mile quicker than last year…I was actually almost 2 mins a mile quicker! Felt strong on the hills and importantly was able to pick the pace up quickly, after reaching the top of each hill. Absolutely flew down Barley Lane, sub 6’s. Really don’t think that could’ve gone any better. Feel like I’m on course for that sub 1:28 half marathon. My shorts drew a few comments…it’s good that I don’t take myself very seriously 😂😂

Superb running Joe. Such an incredible achievement in a short pace of time and further evidence how well you are running right now. Exciting for what lies ahead. I used to make an effort with my appearance when I played golf. So come Club Championship (the big annual event, the one I wanted to win the most) I’d put on my best outfit, smart and colour co-ordinated over two days, the first day I was useless, too it way too seriously and put far too much pressure on myself. So for Day 2 I wore the most outrageous outfit I could find. I mean you looked great in your shorts Sunday, but on this occasion I looked like a complete twat. But it completely relaxed me, and I played so much better. So sometimes these little things can change our mindset and help us run better.
