Rye to Hastings

LOAD: 65

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

12 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

3 Races in 1. 9km of flat through the nature reserve and tricky Sea Wall. Nothing quicker than half marathon pace through this section. Then comes the climb, take your time and walk where needed. The finish from the top of Barley Lane is great fun, let yourself go and you could be running anywhere between 5-10k pace down the hill.

FEEDBACK

ENJOYMENT

RPE

😁 Good pace given the conditions/route

PACE

Good pace from the start; not too fast. Fairly happy with the hills as although I walked, others were walking more. But just didn’t have it in the legs for the last couple of miles and really struggled, even walking for a bit on Barley Lane. Overall happy with time, but just didn’t have enough miles in the legs to feel strong for whole race. Did 10 mins warm up, but my legs weren’t up to a cool down, but did have 10 min walk back to car. HHM under 2 hours is still possible, but I think will be very difficult.

Week 3 of your return plan. So I think important not to spend too long assessing performances right now. The only time I’ve got all the way up those hills was when I was in peak form and even then they were brutal, so walking is fine in parts. I think approaching HHM with a few goals is wise. So your A goal might be sub 2, B Goal do it with as little walking as possible, C goal just enjoy it. Well done though Ben, just nice for me to see you back doing these races again.
