Rye to Hastings

LOAD: 65

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

12 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

3 Races in 1. 9km of flat through the nature reserve and tricky Sea Wall. Nothing quicker than half marathon pace through this section. Then comes the climb, take your time and walk where needed. The finish from the top of Barley Lane is great fun, let yourself go and you could be running anywhere between 5-10k pace down the hill.

Pretty perfect conditions for today’s race meant starting off feeling positive. I decided that I wasn’t going for a time as long runs haven’t really happened since my op and I didn’t want to do anything silly. When Klare mentioned that she wanted to try and go sub 2 hours I thought to myself that would work right for me as I was going to be happy with anything sub 2 as well. So we kept each other company, pushed a bit, dragged a bit and walked a bit. She knocked 19 minutes off her last years time and I am very happy to have got it done with no problems but possibly a bit too much walking with Klare. Looking at my splits I lost time on the hills obviously but Barley Lane to the finish could have been quicker if I hadn’t stayed with Klare but that wasn’t the plan. Overall although slower than last year I’m still very pleased.

Sounds like a really good morning and an enjoyable run. I think at this stage of your training it was a really nice thing to run with Klare and you’ll probably have far better memories from it that had you slogged it out on your own. And to help her improve by 19 mins is fantastic. I look forward to reading Klare’s feedback. Well done Andy. Nice to have such good conditions as well.
