Hastings Half Marathon

LOAD: 66

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 6)

The big one!! For most of us at least. Try to have a clear pacing strategy and don’t go off too fast. The early hills will be tough, but if you dig deep and don’t panic, it’s gets easier once you hit the ridge. Go smash it!

FEEDBACK

ENJOYMENT

RPE

😬 Too fast

PACE

Chuffed, chuffed and chuffed. Given all the issues I’ve had over the last 12 weeks I just took it easy and was aiming for 2:35 ish. Started with Sue Mann, then with Vic and then on my own. Ran by feel and kept the 2:30 pacer in front of me, caught her at the top of Harold Road but kept that pace as it was very comfortable. Stopped a couple of times to check on other HR runners who weren’t looking good, too a photo as I didn’t want to catch the pacer, then as we got to Azure, I caught her again, then she stopped she was about 6 minutes early. I kept comfortable running and finished 2:27. A course PB of about 12 minutes, which I was super pleased with given I was not pushing . Had I pushed or ran at my own pace when I caught the pacer, it would likely have been a few minutes quicker. Given the rubbish training block I’ve just come off, this gives me massive confidence for other HM’s next year… bring it on!! (Also just found the entry details for Sunday’s 10k)

Love this feedback. So pleased for you. And this is the reward for your dedication to stick with the training when it’s been tough. Many others would have given up or took time out and ended up missing this race. Not you. I’m made up you had such a good experience and the fact you were able to run such a strong time without pushing does give a lot of hope for the future. Awesome work Rebecca. You should be really proud of yourself, not just for this race, but the whole plan. Sometimes it’s how we respond when it’s tough that really makes a difference.
