Hastings Half Marathon

LOAD: 66

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 6)

The big one!! For most of us at least. Try to have a clear pacing strategy and don’t go off too fast. The early hills will be tough, but if you dig deep and don’t panic, it’s gets easier once you hit the ridge. Go smash it!

Wow. So, I had little to no sleep the night before, woke up feeling like shit. So thought, you know what let’s just get round…… last year I ran HHM 2:25…..this year 2:14(chip time) 2:13 (starva half time) I mean WTF!!!! I am so pleased that a ropey tired feeling poorly me pulled that out the bag….. bring on March……what can I shave off my time in 5months!!!!

Wow, that is such a big improvement, especially as you felt so rough. Really well done Kirsty. There’s a famous quote from Steve Davis the snooker player who said “Play as if it means nothing, when it means everything”. It’s a mindset we can use as runners in the build up to a big race. It worked really well for me at Chester. I’ve slept really badly ahead of previous marathons, but my mindset was “I’m just going out for a jog and who cares what my time is”. It still meant a lot to me and I was close to tears at the end, but by playing it down in my head in the build up it meant I was better prepared. Something else we can work on, combined with improved fitness and who knows what is possible going forward. But for now let’s celebrate this brilliant improvement. Really well done Kirsty.
