Half Marathon Race

LOAD: 66

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)

Stick to your goal pace early on and it should feel easy. Dig deep in those final 5km to achieve your goal.

😁 Good pace given the conditions/route

As you may have seen from Strava, drinking and no sleep is not good prep for a HM. Obviously that was not meant to happen. My best friend lives in Cardiff and hadn’t seen him since 2023. A last minute change of his plans meant he could pop and see me. One pint turned into two and then two turned into too many. Next thing we are throwing shapes on the dance floor. Think I was still drunk on the start line. A drunk 1:43 wasn’t actually that bad. I literally just ran to my HR all race. Around 165 BPM. I got to 20KM and then just emptied the tank. Was a good race. Seemed to be mostly downhill. Several hills but they were over pretty quick. The wind was kind also.

Ha Ha, no worries. I’m a coach that will always prioritise enjoyment over performance so I have no real problem with this, especially on a race which was never going to be a goal race. Obviously that’s not to say go drinking before every half but I appreciate from your feedback this was slightly unprecedented circumstances. Still good to bank a solid time, work hard and nudge that fitness up further. Glad you had a good weekend overall.
