COACH

Having been poorly the week before my marathon I was very apprehensive about my chances yesterday. To the point I’d kind of conceded defeat and my attitude was I’ll just keep going until my legs give up. Through 10k the calves were already really tight and I thought I had no chance. But slowly but surely the kms ticked by. Halfway went, 25km went, 30km went, it was at the 32km mark I was really starting to struggle, but from that moment I then just started counting down, 1 at a time, and whilst my legs were battered, they were still working, and hadn’t cramped, so I just kept going. And you know what, I did it. I still can’t believe everything held up. Given how trashed my legs have been since I clearly pushed them to the limit, but it was worth it. So nerves are normal, doubts are normal, but just tick off 1km at a time. We know you can get to halfway fairly comfortably as well, so we don’t need to worry too much about that and then from there, just keep going, no matter what. The other thing which worked really well for me this time compared to other marathons was my mindset going into it. When we’ve been working towards something for so long, it can then be difficult to sleep the night before, but I just kept telling myself it was no big deal, just a Sunday morning jog and whether I achieved my goal or not, it didn’t matter, and this nonchalance worked wonders in getting to sleep. Really well done this week, believe in yourself and just chill, it’s not that important at the end of the day. What is important is living a healthy lifestyle and being the best version of yourself. And I think you’re doing pretty well with that right now.
