10K Race

LOAD: 45

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10km @ 10km Pace (RPE: 6-8)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Pacing is everything when it comes to a 10k race. The first half of the race should feel controlled and then you’ll really have to dig deep as the RPE rises. Try and maintain consistent splits throughout. If the route is undulating be sure to do your homework so you know when the hills are coming and how long they will last.

North Tyneside 10K. Absolutely no pressure here. Just give it your best shot and as long as you do that, whatever the time says, you can only be pleased with your efforts. Very best of luck Sarah.

ENJOYMENT

😁 Good pace given the conditions/route

PACE

Struggled with not being too well again this last week and I was still in two minds about attempting the 10k up until the morning of the run. Decided to just give it a go, do some run walking and see how I got on. Really enjoyed it and felt really good all the way through. I ran the first 15 mins then after that I was doing 3 mins run 30 secs walk, but I walked a bit more on the uphills and ran more on the downhills. Looking at my pace at the end the parts I was running I was still maintaining a decent pace at the end and my overall average pace is only a few seconds a mile slower than the last couple of 10ks I’ve ran :)

So pleased you really enjoyed this Sarah. Sounds like you approached it with a really good plan and that can make a big difference. A good result as well given you were feeling poorly. Speaking of which, that has been a trend recently. I was wondering whether it could be diet related or is just bugs you picked up from people. I had to change my diet drastically when I found out all my skin issues where due to gluten and dairy. And to be honest the more I’ve refined my diet and eating healthily the better I’ve got. I rarely get poorly unless someone passes a bug my way and I think that’s down to diet. Always happy to discuss as it’s a topic I’m quite passionate about.
