Bewl 15

LOAD: 70

15 Miles @ Goal Pace (RPE: 4-8)

A tough race with some tricky hills at the end. The main decision here is whether it’s going to be an easy long run or a hard race?

I’ve never raced Bewl but if I did I’d go fast down the hill to start, simply because it gets a bit congested and you don’t want to get held up, then I think I’d settle it, somewhere around marathon pace, fractionally under perhaps, but let quite a few go ahead. Then come the hills when the others start to struggle, pick ’em off and finish strongly. Very best of luck Joe. I won’t set any targets in week 1, you know your ability more than I do at this stage of the plan.

Maybe should’ve not raced it. Not entered. Ran the 5 miler…who knows! A lot tougher than expected. I need to appreciate that I haven’t fully recovered from SDW 100, and this is at the end of my first full training week since SDW 100. It’s a very tough course. Lots of ups and downs, so you can’t get into a rhythm. I need to invest in some decent shoes for those conditions.

Everything you’ve said there is the reason I didn’t enter this year. Take the positives though and you’ve got a decent race under your belt in tough conditions so it will have helped the fitness. So still lots to be pleased with. I think you did rush back a little from the 100 miler and something just to keep in mind as we progress over the next few weeks if the body does complain at all. Quads were looking awesome though!!
