3 x 20 Mins Marathon Pace

LOAD: 450

20 Mins @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
20 Mins @ Marathon Pace (RPE: 5)
x 3

A good opportunity to practice some marathon pace on your long run. Crucial if you have a time in mind. Also sometimes a good option to add some variety to a normal 2 hour long run.

A nice variety to the Sunday 2 hour long run. What I would ideally like is for you to do the MP sections around 6:30. So quicker than marathon pace but still quite a bit slower than your HM pace the other week, so it should still feel comfortable. But if we train faster than goal pace, when Las Palmas rocks around your sub 5 pace will feel like you’re absolutely cruising and can run all day.

Felt hard starting off, even at the slower pace. But the weather was awful, rainy and windy to begin with (grim up north!) Soon warmed up though and settled. Found I was able to pace myself really well and enjoyed the alternating paces. Felt strong overall, last 15mins were hard but I think that’s because I knew I was close to the end. But I think I could of kept going for longer in the same pattern!

Really well done Andy, sounds grim up there. Never judge a run in the first 10-20 minutes, especially as we increase the distance. It can just take the mind and body a little time to warm up. Really well done on the pacing, I think it’s good to appreciate those different speeds and adds a nice bit of variety to the long run.
