3 x 20 Mins Marathon Pace

LOAD: 450

20 Mins @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
20 Mins @ Marathon Pace (RPE: 5)
x 3

A good opportunity to practice some marathon pace on your long run. Crucial if you have a time in mind. Also sometimes a good option to add some variety to a normal 2 hour long run.

Good to mix up the paces. To be honest marathon pace should feel relatively comfortable for you right now and if anything the benefit of this session is getting to slow down a touch on the easy part of the run. The target paces are on the assumption it’s a flat route. If hills are involved allow for the pace to drop and focus on the right RPE.

Not the best session, as you know I don’t overly enjoy the longer runs especially in the heat. I thought I was doing ok but I planned it wrong so by the time I got back to Bexhill and had to run up galley hill, the mind went 😬 all the excuses and then I stopped!!

Well done Lou, if anything you just set off a bit fast, and probably paid the price given how hot it was. I think if you get the pacing spot on you’ll probably find these sessions a bit easy, both physically and mentally. If you do have any spare time at the weekend to fit in some easy miles to top up the training load that would be perfect. 60 mins would be fine, but no worries if that isn’t possible.
