4 x 2 Miles

LOAD: 50

1 Mile WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

2 Miles @ Half Marathon Pace (RPE: 6-8)
1 Mile @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
x 4

A big half marathon session for those who like to work in miles. A real opportunity to practice goal pace and build some confidence ahead of your race. Each rep will get progressively tougher, so dig deep towards the end of this one.

A little bit naughty of me here as I know this didn’t go well last time, but an opportunity to have another crack and see if you can do better. One of just 2 half marathon long run sessions before the big half.

Turned out that Sarah Stewart had a similar session to me and also wanted to stick to the flat so we went together. Did a seafront route and kept looping back for each other. It worked really nicely, even though we had different sessions knowing the other person was working hard really helped. I did find it super tough and didn’t quite make my target pace on every rep but I kept pushing hard trying to stay upright and keep my cadence high. Really tried to focus on the section I was on and not think too much about the fact I had 2/3 more sets to go. I kept my recovery miles super easy and let my heart rate settle right back down. Annoyingly the last few weeks I’ve been getting blisters on my long runs on my toes. I’ve been rotating my shoes but happens every time. Not sure if it’s the heart or that I’ve changed my form slightly but it’s super distracting in those last few miles.

That’s so nice to hear you had Sarah along for company. And really well done here, an excellent session done with the Big Half in mind. Breaking in down into these segments help you focus on each one at a time and that’s such a powerful mindset, especially on race day, one mile at a time. The blisters might just be the heat and the feet sweat more, hopefully it’s something which doesn’t keep happening. But excellent work Alice, a really good run banked and a key point of this plan.
