45 Minute Tempo (HM)

LOAD: 310

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)
45 Mins @ Half Marathon Pace (RPE: 6)
10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

The pace for this time should feel fairly comfortable and give you a nice confidence boost ahead of race day that the early stages will be enjoyable.

This is the Icklesham race (don’t have a preset page for it yet, hence why it says 45 mins tempo). My one concern would be that of all the runs in the plan this week, which one has the potential to cause the hill the most damage? Arguably the uneven trail run. But I understand your decision to want to run this one, given you’ve paid, but I did want to put that out there. I know Will & Nick were dangling some free entries around, so perhaps if you were concerned and did mention your circumstances they would be happy to carry your entry over to the next race. All that said, if you are fit, or decide the heel is good to go, have a great race, try and keep the RPE consistent, both up and down the hills. I’m sure it will be a lot of fun. I’m definitely keen to do one of these races one day, just need it to slot into my schedule better.

I felt I was taking it pretty easy, but the comfort in which I covered the course – give or take the steep uphill finish! – was both a joy (time to look around at the great scenery) and a frustration (guessing I would be limping, later). Sure enough… So today is Day One of my recovery break. I will follow the Runners World programme for PF (as well doing some non-impact S&C, exercise bike etc) until I see Mary Sanderson on Wednesday 7 May. After which, at a time tbc, I WILL return…

Really pleased you were able to take part and enjoyed the race so much. I think that’s a good plan. Ignore what I’ve put in this week. In fact let’s put things on hold until we have the feedback from Mary. Then we can decide on a game plan. Fingers crossed it is ok as I feel like you are running really well right now, but equally these small injury setbacks are very frustrating. Well done Neil.
