5 x 1 Mile On/Off

LOAD: 43

1 Mile @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
1 Mile @ Half Marathon Pace (RPE: 5-8)
x 5

A good session to replace your long run or 10 miler. Each rep will get progressively tougher in terms of RPE. Dig deep in the last few.

Time to introduce a bit of half marathon pace into the long runs. You could combine it with parkrun and have a Sunday off if you preferred. It’s a recovery week hence less runs.

That was good run. Jack had planned a fifteen mile loop so I ran with them for the first five and a half miles until they turned from the coast in Bexhill up towards the link road path. I finished the mile I was on then turned back with Martin Turner and ran to the Goat Ledge. There were friends of Jack’s in the group including the man who had won Park Run the day before so it was a quick pace. My quick miles were around 7’45 per mile and the slower miles were around 8’45 so a good session. I signed up for the Barcelona marathon this weekend and it is on March 15,2026. That is something good to aim for but unfortunately it means I can’t really do Paddock Wood HM the week before unless I run at 1hr 45’ pace or slower. For that reason I also signed up for Brighton HM which is on March 1st, two weeks before Barcelona. If I train properly I could aim for 1hr 40’ in that as a last solid run without overdoing it. One funny thing today, my Garmin told me I was peaking this morning which made me smile after my legs went at park run last weekend. I thought I was in recovery.

You gotta love Garmin sometimes. Barcelona? Wow! I love that. What a fantastic race to aim for. I think that will keep the motivation high for the next training block and really exciting for me that you’ve entered such a big race. Yeah I noticed there were suddenly some much quicker runners in Jacks group yesterday, I guess the fact you had those speedier miles helped, but a really good session to tick off here and kinda shows Garmin must be correct, right? Keep up the excellent work Conal. Love having you on the Team.
