60 Mins & Strides

LOAD: 22

60 Mins @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2-3)

8 x 100 metre Strides (RPE: 8)
60 Second Recoveries

Best done in a group!! Keep the RPE down, so you should be able to chat. Don’t forget those strides. They are very important. Enjoy.

😬 Too fast

PACE

We were a bit fast for most of the run but there were also a few stops so gave me a chance to get the HR back down a bit. I was aware this was supposed to be an easy run so didn’t try and stick with the speedy chaps but we were quite pacey. Although I always find those runs a bit of a boost as I’m moving quicker but still chatting away so a reminder that I’m fitter than I give myself credit for. Had a good chat with Pete Heasman about tips for switching your brain off and just going into a zone. He said he does a lot of mental maths working out percentages etc. Not sure my maths is good enough for that 😂 although he also said just counting backwards from 100 is a good way of getting your brain thinking about something else so I’m going to give that a go next time my head gets in the way! As you witnessed I did do my strides!! I actually really enjoyed them!!

We had a nice little group there at the end. If anyone knows how to switch off the mind, then Pete is a great person to speak to given his achievements over the long distances. I’m sure I read Paula Ratcliffe uses that technique as well. But again, as mentioned with the swimming, I really like this thought process of the moment of always seeking out those small improvements that will make you a better runner/athlete. And it’s good to share and discuss these with others. Well done Alice and nice to see you briefly.
