LOAD: 45

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10.3km @ HM – Marathon Pace (RPE: 6-9)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Hard to set a pace given the elevation. A tough route but a great race. Can be done as an easy run if you prefer. VIEW THE ROUTE.

The best advice I can give here is slowly crank up the effort on each lap. So sit back a little in the pack on the first lap. Even if feels a little slow down through the woods. If you let some of the others go, then as you pick up the effort in laps two and three you’ll pick them off and that’s a far more enjoyable way to run a race. Effort level will reach some pretty high spots in this race, but that’s what we are looking for as it’s a big session in the plan. Very best of luck Alice.

I’d be lying if I said I loved it because I really didn’t. I would look to do it again though. It’s highlighted for me a few things I need to work on! Not giving up on hills being a big one. My body stops before I even have time to think about it. I definitely could have given more so my head is a real barrier at the moment. I think being injured for so long has knocked my confidence a bit when racing but glad to get it done and a beautiful evening for it.

I think a lot of runners were in the same boat. It’s an incredibly difficult route, and that first hill out of the woods is made so much more challenging by that sharp incline. I did ponder post race if that route is suitable and whether it’s just “too hard”. But once a year I think it’s ok, and we’ll probably have made some good gains by doing that elevation. Something to aim for now when you next do that race. Well done Alice.
