Barry Richards 10K

LOAD: 45

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
4-8 Strides x 100 Metres (RPE: 8)

10K @ 10K Pace (RPE: 7)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

An excellent opportunity to run a fast 10K. As with any 10k, be sure not to go off too fast, lots of the other runners will be, so settle into your target pace early on and then really dig deep after the turnaround.

Not really sure what to expect here. It’s not really been the target so I think it’s important to approach it without too much expectations and just go out there and give it your best effort. Bet of luck.

👊 Nailed my target

PACE

Wasn’t feeling ready to break any records with the lack of speed work and this damn congestion that won’t shift, so I’m pretty happy with how this went. It’s nice to get a PB (50s off my 10k time from last year) and tick them all off for 2025. I couldn’t have done this on the night if it wasn’t for Joe though, that push to catch him early on payed off loads as we stuck to each other all the way to the finish. I think we both helped the other stay on our toes but I was behind him more in the 2nd half so had someone to chase – he was a machine and really consistent throughout. I thought I’d lost him a few times but managed to pull him back in, then we were neck and neck towards the end and I could hear how hard he was pushing (I was spurring him on), I realised that I wasn’t working as hard so had enough for a last minute push to get a little ahead of him, he tried very hard to keep up. He stopped, I carried on to make it up to 10km (was 100m short!) which was very difficult after that last big push. Felt great after, and even better when Laura came through almost 3 mins ahead of the target, smiling! Great night, so glad I did it.

Creating special memories right? Fantastic running Sam a full set of PBs for 2025, you can’t ask for much more than that. I’m so pleased for you and thank you for making me look good as well. I know the effort that goes into the training but also on a race like this to achieve those targets. I think this highlights an important lesson though and that is the benefit of running with someone else. I’ve found that myself this year with my best time (here he goes talking about himself again) when Steve paced me at the 5 miler. So in future races, even ultras, even if it means slowing down a little or pushing that bit harder, to have that company, it’s probably worth it in the long run. Fantastic running Sam!!!
