Bedgebury Half Marathon

LOAD: 700

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)

More elevation than HHM according to the route. CLICK HERE to view the course.

It’s two laps and appears to be 3 hills each one, not to mention an extra climb at the end of the race.

Is this is goer? Is that a word? Do I ask too many questions?

With the schedule I’ve set I’m happy to include this. Obviously it’s a lovely place to run, albeit a challenging route with 3 tough hills, all of which need to be tackled twice.

If you are not racing let me know and we can put some bigger sessions in during the week.

My only goal was to make it round and make it round without stopping. I’m pleased to have achieved both of those things however my speed was definitely sacrificed in order to achieve that. I’m not gonna lie the pain was coming from the bottom up in that my Achilles were on fire and the top down in that my glutes were extremely sore. I was in a real lot of pain. And it really impacted my run. I knew it wasn’t gonna be a great one for me, I’m just a bit concerned this is it. That I’m not gonna be ok running anymore. Because it seems like I’m just constantly injured. It was a lovely day though and a lovely route and usually I’m terrible with mud but i actually ploughed through pretty well!

Firstly well done for getting this done. I think there’s reason to be concerned about the short term issue. But I wouldn’t make any long term assumptions. Look at Sarah Marzaoili, she didn’t even start running into her 50s and has achieved so much. From all the information and feedback you’ve given me, my advice would be to take a step back. Get some level of diagnosis that you are happy with and then rebuild from there. Yes it’s likely to set you back short term but we are coming to the end of this race season anyway. I think being stubborn and just trying to keep ploughing on, is only going to make things worse. If you are enjoy being part of the team and working with myself, that doesn’t need to stop but what we need is an opinion from someone with more expertise that can guide you on what’s best right now. Whether it be rest, running for less time, or doing different gym work. There’s the famous quote “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” It kind of feels like that has been the approach of late and it’s not working. So taking a step back might be sensible, however you will need a physio to advise you on the best approach short term, when it comes to how much rest/work you should be doing.
