15K Race

LOAD: 600

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

15km @ Target Pace (RPE: 5-8)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Very similar to a 10 miler. Pacing is everything, somewhere just under half marathon pace is ideal, but the elevation of the course will determine your target pace (see coaches note).

I think 62 minutes would be a great time. Obviously depends on the course and conditions, but anywhere close to that would be excellent. Going off any quicker and I do worry the last 5k could be hellish.

Target Time: 62:00 – Target Pace: 4:08

I know I went off too quick. Tbh, I was shocked when I saw first 1km at 3.48, because I was genuinely conscious of going off too fast. Nervous energy I think. Stabilised it later and the slow 14k was more due to 5k runners joining 15k race rather than tiredness. So feeling quite positive about half in 2 weeks

Really impressed with the time. I was thinking around the 1:03 mark and exactly what you came in at. We’ll all made that mistake, I still do these days, but I think the perfect race, especially half marathon is consistent splits, so in a few weeks time, you will be really holding yourself back in those early stages, to the point it will feel too slow and you’ll be letting runners go past you, but it will be worth it when the final 5km comes. Having that knowledge of what pace you can sustain for 21km is priceless and then slowly but surely that pace will creep ever lower. I always see it has a battery at 100% and trying to cross the line just as it reaches 0. To master that is a real skill and takes a lot of patience early in a race. All that said, really pleased you did this race and smashed out such a good time. Great job Ben.
