Fox Ultra

LOAD: 1200

62km @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3-7)

Not too bad in terms of elevation for an Ultra of this length. The worst hills appear to be towards the end of the race, especially at around 27 miles.

Take your time early in the race, that’s the key, so don’t be afraid to run the first 6 miles in 75-80 mins. What you don’t want to do is run the first 25 miles and then find yourself having to walk the rest of the way. Take walk breaks early if you can, to hopefully avoid that scenario. Keep eating, stay hydrated and just enjoy it. A day out in the countryside, what’s not to love. I don’t know why some dickheads are so keen to run them as quickly as they can, where’s the fun in that?

Such a pretty route. It was brutal though. The elevation in the first 10miles was hard. If anyone asks I wouldn’t recommend this one, especially for the slower runner, it was definitely a more competitive ultra geared up for faster runners. We didn’t see any other runners after the first 8miles. The pit stops were rubbish, I was very lucky my mum crewed us. My hydration & fuelling was spot on. Struggled a bit around 50k but got my head down. The last 5k was painful but I pretty much ran it all so I didn’t give up & walk which would have been the easier option. At the moment I can’t even imagine added another 40k 🙈

You did brilliant and I was really impressed when looking at your splits that you never had to resort to walking. That extra distance is always going to mess with your head, but you have the potential to take that one a bit slower I think, if need be. We’ll worry about that when the time comes. But rejoice in this success. A marathon and a half on a tough hilly trail is bloody superb. So proud of you guys!! You smashed it. Well done Stacey.
