Great South Run

LOAD: 58

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

10 Miles @ 10 Mile Pace (RPE: 6-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

I’ve heard really positive things about the Great South Run and it’s a race I would love to do one year. The course is very flat and it attracts a strong field with a massive entry list. 10 Miles isn’t a distance we cover very often so it’s important to get the pacing right and not go off too quickly. That’s easily done when running in a big field when lots of those around you will make that same mistake.

👊 Nailed my target

PACE

Another fantastic race! I kept within a few seconds either side of 4:17 target pace for 12km and ended up just 1 sec off target at this point – from there I decided to push on and empty the tank and the last four km were 4:11, 4:10, 4:06 and 4:00, with the final 300m kick of 3:45 pace! Overall was 14 seconds over goal time, but was 200m long so under target pace :D I’m also very glad I was able to sneak into wave 1 as it meant I had clearer roads, plus the heavens opened up within minutes of finishing and the weather became atrocious!

Amazing. We were watching the live stream at the start and I saw you go through quite early so new you’d managed to start further up which was good news. Somehow missed you come across the finish line though so started to panic, but needn’t have worried. Sounds like you paced this perfectly and having that energy left to finish a race strongly in that way is always great and makes if far more enjoyable. Possibly the perfectly executed race and hopefully give you a lot of confidence going forward. Fantastic running Jamie.
