Half Marathon Race

LOAD: 700

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 5-8)

Stick to your goal pace early on and it should feel easy. Dig deep in those final 5km to achieve your goal.

Bogota 15k showed how challenging it can be to get that pace right early on. So that’s the big goal here. Hold back in that first 5k, it should feel easy at that stage and you’ll probably have a lot of runners passing you. But the more runners you let go at that point of the race, the more you’ll have to overtake at the end. Excited to see what you can produce here. Very best of luck. Go smash it.

This was a good race. I was conscious of holding back but also taking advantage of the downhill first half. Found it quite tricky to manage as I knew I would have to come back and so was conscious of not going out too fast. Was hoping for sub 1.30 but as soon as I turned round and started going up, I knew it wasn’t gonna happen, so just focussed on trying to maintain pace that I knew I could manage. In hindsight, I think I probably could have pushed a little harder on the downhill, as felt like I had more in the tank by the end. That said, was happy with my race in general, as it was more controlled and disciplined.

Sounds like you ran a really good race and you’re thinking really smartly in terms of pacing. I bet so many struggled back up the hill and would imagine, despite your pace dropping you were gaining places? It’s a very difficult course, because ultimately you don’t want to easy part first. I’ve had two windy races in recent weeks. One of them was downwind on the way out, the other downwind on the way back. The results were night and day. So given the route, I think you did an excellent job here and hopefully this lays down the foundations for Bogota, where your fitness should be much better with a lot of half marathon specific work coming up. Great running Ben.
