1 Mile WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

3 Miles @ Marathon Pace (RPE: 5)

A good session to mix up paces. WU & CD very important to slowly build the pace.

🤬 Way off pace today

PACE

Had already talked myself out of this run when I see it. No confidence to run fast at all. Warm up was fine. 3 miles @ MP were okay (ish) but felt harder than it should. Struggled to hold the HM pace. Felt the heart climbing and had to keep stopping. Half a mile CD as had to collect the daughter from gymnastics. On a positive, I enjoyed running fast after again. But beat myself up a bit during the run.

From a mindset point of view I think it’s important to focus on the moment. I know a lot of runners who do talk themselves out of things before they even start. Wait until it gets tough and then ask that question, can I do this? Often you’ll be surprised that you feel better than you expected. I think week 1 of a new plan, with a new coach, coming off a block with largely easy running, that doubt is inevitable and it will take time. Those target paces are always a guide and there will be days you don’t feel as good and might fall short. Best thing to do is drop the pace slightly and maintain a consistent effort. As I say we can always tweak the target paces slightly as well. As with anything it’s practice and getting back used to running at quicker paces with higher heart rate. It’s never easy, but the more we do it, the more we get used to it and our self confidence grows. So I wouldn’t be disappointed at this stage.
