Half/Marathon 6 Mile Tempo

LOAD: 330

1 Mile WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

3 Miles @ Marathon Pace (RPE: 5)
3 Miles @ Half Marathon Pace (RPE: 6)

1 Mile CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

A good session to mix up paces. WU & CD very important to slowly build the pace.

The thinking here is to find something decent in terms of training load but also not too demanding off the back of the Rye 10. Hopefully this fits the bill.

Well I’m not sure my body was quite ready for that. Definitely one of those runs where you know it’s going to do you some real progress. Tired legs and brutal wind for the marathon pace. Took 5 seconds and turned for the half pace. Splits were good albeit the 2nd 3 miles were a little short. Good session but I’m done. Definitely an easy one for me tomorrow.

Yeah it’s a tricky one. I think the 1 mile event has obviously sucked out some of the training load. So I wanted to boost it without working you too hard. So thought this might be better than efforts. Sometimes it’s a tricky balance to get right. The only thing I’d say in future, is if the body doesn’t feel up to it on the day, just let me know. Obviously that’s the one thing I can never be aware of, so don’t be afraid to say that. I had that after my Seaford run, couldn’t face the efforts, hence the high mileage last week to hit my training target without any speed work. So there are always alternatives. That said, great work for still smashing it out, and hitting decent paces on tired legs is exactly what we are going to have to do in our marathon training and at Chester. So never too early to experience that. Awesome work Paul.
