Half Taper Session

LOAD: 25

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5km @ Half Marathon Pace
(RPE: 6)
3 minutes recovery

5 x 200 metres @ Target Time (RPE: 9)
60 second recoveries

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

A really good session to do the week of a half marathon. A chance to practice race pace at a lower volume and get some speed in the legs.

FEEDBACK

ENJOYMENT

RPE

😬 Too fast

PACE

Felt different tonight, felt like I could actually run again and was good to do a session and enjoy it. 10 min progressive WU. I ran the 5K with my HR around 165/170 and didn’t really look at pace. This is where I plan to go out at Sunday or slightly less to start with. Instead of it being 7.35 per mile it was more 6:50 per mile. The effort felt okay and was not all out like it’s been before. The 200s I felt strong and they all got gradually faster. 10 min CD

I did have a look at your Strava splits before reading this feedback and saw you were going sub 90 pace. I was kinda expecting to see the feedback and you too say you went off way too quick. But the fact you felt ok is a really positive sign. Ultimately that’s the goal of this session is to highlight that half marathon pace is actually relatively comfortable. You’ve done quite a bit of training at half marathon effort in your super base so likely you could be fairly well conditioned for this distance. As I say, no pressure Sunday. If you wanted to go off at that pace then I’m happy with that approach. Just see how things unfold, but this is definitely really positive and pleased to hear you enjoyed it too. Great work Dan.
