Hastings 5 Miler

LOAD: 380

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

5 Miles @ 5 Mile Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

See how the weeks unfold. No pressure to do this if you want the extra rest.

Too hungover/tired for strides, also didn’t want to split my trousers before the race ;-) Paced Laura to under 40 mins, we needed 4:47 min/km average which we got. I let her pick up a bit too much speed in the 2nd km into the wind, in hindsight I should have held her back a bit as she lost some pace towards the end. She got it and managed a quick finish, phew! For me it was a very comfy pace to run, and lots of fun. It was nice to be in the mix with runners I don’t usually see during races and I was able to enjoy it as wasn’t pushing very hard at all, despite the suit. Heart rate wasn’t low though, but it felt pretty easy. No niggles at all. Good fun.

Love this. The running community needs characters like yourself to spread the joy. It was so cool seeing you run in that suit. And I think important for yourself just to enjoy a race like this without feeling the need to push hard or chase a time. You may just have inspired me to run easy Sunday, although I ain’t wearing a suit. Thanks for making myself and so many others smile and congratulations to Laura.
