Hastings 5 Miler

LOAD: 380

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

5 Miles @ 5 Mile Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

It would be nice to come in under last years time. Albeit this isn’t the main goal of this plan. But my pace sheet is saying 6:20 is the right target here which would result in a sub 32. I’m going to start at a slightly slower pace (6:26), so you are welcome to sit in for a few miles if you wanted and kick on. Entirely up to you. At that pace I’ll be hanging on for dear life though, so don’t expect met to follow πŸ˜‚ I think it’s also important to feel good coming into this, because you are running well as the Pier to Pier and Spring 5K showed. That consistency takes hard work and you’ve done bloody well to come into another race running very well. Very best of luck.

Target Pace: 6:20 Target Time: 31:50

Knew it would be tough and it certainly was. Sat it with you and your pacer for the first half. Probably went a bit early on the way back, and knew I would have to go all-out at the end to keep you behind me. I think it sums up where I am at the moment. Not as motivated for racing as I normally am, but hopefully that will change. Great racing by you. Don’t think you could have done anything better on the day. I was listening to your pacer and he was brilliant too.

I think you ran a really good race. What I would say and it’s always important to remember, is what a disadvantage your at in terms of your training due to your work. Having to run solo, later in the evening than most, makes it so much tougher. So the fact you’re at this level where you’re running well and injury free is great. Out of interest I’ve looked at our respective training loads over the last 10 weeks, Yours is 752 (heavily impacted by a week off to be fair, and we were keeping it lighter before starting this 16 week block for Battle), mine was 1200. So I’m having to work bloody hard to keep up with you. But then I have the luxury of I can run whenever I want, and that makes it so much easier. I guess my point is, you’re doing really well to make the most of your availability and hopefully still enjoying the training process. Could we do more? Yes. Would it be more enjoyable? Possibly not. And is it worth to run these races a few seconds quicker πŸ€” If you can continue to run at a strong level, despite your commitments and availability then I think that’s an impressive achievement. Awesome work Kieran. Obviously I’m livid I’m couldn’t catch you at the end though πŸ˜‚
