5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

Brilliant race this. Don’t worry if you still get nervous, that’s normal. But you have the experience of doing this now. Plus you’re a Hastings Runner and key member of Team Orange now so all those other members will be routing for you. My trusty pace sheet has you down at 5:27 per km, for a time of 43 minutes and 45 seconds. Don’t worry too much about that pace, it’s just a guide. All you can do is your best. And if you approach any race with that attitude, then you can’t go far wrong. The time won’t determine whether this is a success of a failure. If you run with a smile on your face and give it your best, then it’s a success regardless of what the clock says when you cross the line. Very best of luck Kirsty. You got this.

So. Faster than last year. Took almost a minute off. That wind, the sun! Excuse excuse excuse. Didn’t feel as strong as I wanted to…. But didn’t stop and that’s the main thing! Lush to be part of a team, I looked for you after but couldn’t spot you, had to dash to grab Arthur so didn’t get a medal 😔 pace somewhat slower than wanted…..

It was tough. I was fortunate I had someone to tuck in behind and block the wind. When I didn’t have that a few weeks ago at Seaford I struggled horribly. So the fact you’ve made that improvement from last year despite the tougher conditions is really nice to see. Sorry I didn’t get to see you more on the day, it can be tricky when I’m running as well. They will be ordering more medals, so you should get hold of one of those. Loving the Orange shorts and HR top combo. That made me happy. Really well done Kirsty.
