Hastings 5 Miler

LOAD: 380

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

5 Miles @ 5 Mile Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

I think it’s important not to build this up too much or worry too much about the time. It’s very early in this training plan. So you’ll improve a lot more from this point onwards. So try not to make too many judgements. Instead focus on the things you can control. The warm up. Going off at the right pace. Digging deep and staying positive when it gets tough. If you do all those things then you have to be happy, whatever time you run. That said my pace sheet is normally a good predictor and I feel like you’re running well at the moment. Very best of luck. It should be a fun morning.

Target Time: 40:00 Target Pace: 8:00

Niggle = Big toe in trainer turns out it blistered 😬 No clicking knee though 🥳 Really enjoyed that! Feel happy with my time 41.20mins especially as I’ve eaten holiday food and drank vino over the last week. I feel like I’ve definitely got more to give which makes me excited to see what this ole bod can do!

That is a fantastic time, especially in less than ideal conditions. So pleased you enjoyed that and I agree, I really think there is further room for improvement as we continue to progress through this plan. That should definitely make you excited and keep you motivated going forward. Awesome running Lou.
