Hastings 5 Miler

LOAD: 380

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

5 Miles @ 5 Mile Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

You’re at the peak of your powers right now. The last few weeks may have been a mini step back, but that’s because you just needed that rest after the 10k PB and a very busy work schedule. That fitness will still be there and would be awesome to clock another PB here. Although with the main goal achieved see it as a free hit rather than put pressure on yourself to achieve it. It’s a tough distance to get right, but try and find someone to race. Mr.Millar perhaps?  Target time does come from my automated pace sheet, so happy to discuss if you’re not convinced it’s correct. It’s normally pretty accurate, but the 5 mile target paces do look a bit spicy.

It’s strange when you feel like you are working at your hardest and yet the results don’t come your way. Oh well, just take the positives and move onto the next race.

I can definitely relate. Seaford was heart breaking for me. It was going to my 10k PB that has been elusive for over 2 years now. But it was just so hard, even the first km downwind I didn’t hit my pace. I tried so hard that day and was miles off. Yet a few weeks later, everything came together. I think having Steve helped me massively and at some point I think you doing a race, whether it be a 5k or another 10 with someone pacing you (I’d be happy to help if dates align) could make a big difference. The most important thing in races like this is to make sure we continue to work hard, even when we miss that target time, that way we continue to make gains, so really well done on that part.
