Hastings 5 Miler

LOAD: 380

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

5 Miles @ 5 Mile Pace (RPE: 5-9)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5 miles is a really tough distance to get right. Rest assured, this is tough. The first mile is so important, don’t go off too quick and you’ll set yourself up for a strong race.

My pace sheet which is normally quite reliable is currently saying 8:25. But in my head I’m thinking you could be a bit quicker than that. The best advice I can offer is make sure you don’t go off too fast. Run a controlled first few miles (8:20-8:30) and then if you feel strong start to pick up that pace (8:10-8:20). Finishing well is so much more fun as you overtake those that have made the mistake of starting too quickly.

Target Pace: 8:25 Target Time: 42:00

What can I say !! I stuck to the plan, knew where I was along the way. I knew my PB on this course but didn’t tell anyone. I found it a toughy at time and in places but on the other hand really really enjoyed it. A new PB by 28 seconds 🥳 Thank you so much for all of the valuable advice and support. My chip time was 41:45 😊 My previous PB from 2018 was 42. 19

Fantastic running Michelle. Congrats on the PB. This early in your plan I can’t take a massive amount of credit and all those winter long runs you did will have played a part too. But I think it does highlight if you can get things like the warm right and a good pacing strategy, those themselves can go a long way to a quick time and an enjoyable experience. The most satisfying thing for me is to hear how much you enjoyed it.
