Hastings Half Marathon

LOAD: 66

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

13.1 Miles @ HM Pace (RPE: 6)

The big one!! For most of us at least. Try to have a clear pacing strategy and don’t go off too fast. The early hills will be tough, but if you dig deep and don’t panic, it’s gets easier once you hit the ridge. Go smash it!

All hail the Mighty Plan! And coach Simon of course – who, unless I’m mistaken, went sub-3:30 at Chester and gained a new PB? Huge congrats Simon! As for me – I bloomin smashed it too! So pleased with my time which appears to be around 2:15. Absolutely thrilled with that and I’ve laid the ghost of what I felt were two mediocre HHMs, coming off injury for one and proper ill for the other, as I recall. Thanks for all your input, Simon. I shall bask in glory for a while – then start suffering from FOMO as soon as I realise I’m not on a plan! Today, I did, again, ‘try harder’ and pushed a wee bit up Queensway, which did not affect my time along The Ridge. I knew the last 2 miles would be very tough with a very strong wind against so I caned it down Harold Road to have some time in hand. I did not check my watch for pace or time elapsed. Felt upbeat all last night even though I did not sleep very well and that continued this morning and throughout the race. I overtook my main competition from SGP at the end of the Ridge but maybe she was having an off day. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the race and am very grateful for the brilliant plan you prepared for me which has certainly achieved our objectives. Oh and I won my age group and Good Run Guide gives me 87% age-graded but we know it’s a bit generous!

Thank you for bringing so much joy to my day with this feedback. It’s so much fun to read and being part of your running journey is a huge honour for me. I’m delighted this training plan ended on such a high. To win your age category, set a new record and get 87% age grade is pretty good for one days work. You should be so pleased and proud of your achievements here. Fantastic running Sarah. And yes Chester went great, couldn’t be happier, it’s nice when I’m able to achieve my own goals as well. Late December is about the right time to start training for London as it would give you 16 weeks to prepare. So that’s a nice few months to keep things ticking over between now and then.
