S&C session went fine, no problems. I’ve been wondering why I feel unaccountably nervous about London – should be straightforward, having done it 20 times…. Maybe it’s because, so far, and I don’t want to jinx myself, everything has gone well. Training plan – all sessions ticked off with no major problems, coach agrees it’s gone well. Illness and injury – none apart from minor colds! Amazing! Maybe because I took vit D this winter? Please let’s get through the next few days without any problems. But therein lies the problem – I’ve no excuse! If all has gone fine, you should be on top form and do well and that’s a kind of pressure……

Firstly there is no pressure from me, at all. I’d also like to think no-one other than yourself has expectations in terms of performance on Sunday, in terms of time especially. So any pressure will be stemming from you, but I still get that and it’s normal to be nervous. That’s when the mindset of just focusing on what you can control and giving it your best, is all that matters. I think it’s also important not to put too much emphasis on one race. I appreciate the operation is coming and that will be a little setback, but you’ve laid some excellent foundations for a strong year of running, so even if Sunday didn’t go as well as you liked, I’m sure once you have recovered from the op and got back on track, 2025 will be a really strong year for you. We watched the 2008 Hastings Marathon yesterday evening and saw you a few times. Here you are 17 years later, still running marathons, you should be so proud of yourself for everything you have achieved, Sunday is such a small part of that running journey, whatever happens, the fact you are still fighting fit and running 26.2 miles is incredible.
