50K Ultra

LOAD: 90

50K @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3-5)

So important to respect the distance and get the pacing right. If you go off at a comfortable enough pace, then you’ll run a good race. Keep fuelling even if you don’t feel like it. Ultra’s have been described as “eating contests” by some of the leading runners. Walk the hills if need be.

😁 Good pace given the conditions/route

Well a PB for me by quite a bit. I stupidly didn’t go with my gut feeling and followed the other by wearing my off-roads, this was a real bad mistake for me as the pain In my ankles and glutes was tremendous, if Lindsey’s husband hasn’t been at the halfway point I don’t think I would have been able to complete it. Lucky he was though and I felt the difference immediately in my ankles which didn’t hurt half as much. The glutes and trapped nerves were another story. I got through 8 anadin and loads of ibuprofen gel at each stop. But I did it! Me Nick and Helen split off from the others as we getting along a bit quicker and in actual fact I was the one getting them through. This was definitely a day when the stubborness really got me through. Was definitely grateful for that

Fantastic. You’ve got this quality that so many runners lack and I think we can use that going forward to hopefully achieve some good things. Congrats on your PB as well. Yeah I can imagine trail shoes given what I heard about the route was a bad choice, but glad you were able to switch. I’ll drop you a message this week so we can plan ahead and hopefully start to help with those pains that continue to haunt you. Well done Kelly. You did it, despite all the obstacles thrown your way and you should be proud of your determination to keep going.
