Kings Head Canter

LOAD: 25

2km WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

5km @ 5k Pace (RPE: 8)

2km CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Not really a PB course with kilometres 2, 3 and 4 all gentle uphill before a downhill finish. A great event though with a lovely atmosphere at the finish. It’s a point to point so plan where you are going to park.

No need to set any targets here. Just go out and enjoy it and have a fantastic morning. Very best of luck Sarah.

After recent back-of-leg pains, I was worried about that initially but warm-up proved there was no problem. My other major worry is now running in the heat because of the fact it brings on low blood pressure and consequently fatigue and dizziness. I knew I had hydrated well but I wished I’d got an electrolyte drink. I had no breakfast as it’s only a short race. Anyway, I gave myself a good talking to – after all it’s only 5k! and so I set off in reasonable spirits, which continued to lift as the race rolled on. After 4k there is a nice downhill stretch and I went for it. My time by provisional official results was 30:37 whereas Strava has unkindly added an extra 25 seconds! Anyway, I was happy to be able to do a speedy run for a change and feel quite pleased with myself even if the time was not fantastic. The social side of the race is always great. Now begins the worry re Budapest Half – I know it’s too early to tell but temperatures are building this week, into the 30s!

Really pleased this went well and to be close to that 30 minute mark on what is a tricky route in tough conditions shows that you are still running really well. Fantastic work Sarah and really pleased you enjoyed the atmosphere, it’s a great event the Kings Head Canter. My best advice and obviously it’s well preached is just focus on the current moment. I’ve given up looking at weather forecasts in advance because invariably they are never accurate. What will be will be in terms of the conditions and I have zero control over that. So on the day I’ll adjust my goals if need be and do my best. I think that’s all you can do as I know thousands and thousands of runners were humbled in the heat at Brighton, London and Manchester in the spring, but other opportunities will present themselves when conditions will be better and often it’s the races we build up the least that end up being the best (hope that helps). Again, really well done for today!
