Milton Keynes Marathon

LOAD: 1050

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 2)

26.2 Miles @ Marathon Pace (RPE: 4-8)

A really good event. Slightly later in the calendar so could be warm. Finishes in the MK Stadium and has 938 feet of elevation although most of that appears to be near the start or at least in the first half of the race.

Definitely a big fan of the 3:15 pacer strategy, especially as the majority of the hills do come early on. If you feel strong later in the run, then by all means kick on, but make any pace adjustments minimal to make sure you’ve strong to the end. The early forecast is much better at around the 11-12 degrees. You’re on top form, you’re running great, go smash it. Very best of luck Jack.

PACE

On Saturday at the Parkrun we spoke a little bit about our best races. I mentioned that Reading half marathon, where I first broke 90 minutes, sticks in my mind because of how I paced it and how I felt and the pure elation of that moment. This tops that. I have never felt so strong and confident in my performance. The first 14 miles flew by, with the pacer got to know him (Jason) flew by he told me he was on his third marathon Boston, London and Mk dons in two weeks. Crazy! After 14 miles it was feeling way too easy. Started speaking to another runner Rich, we said we were both feeling strong and we would push on. For the next seven miles just spoke about life. Forgot about running. Then for the last five. I knew I had done it. I could have pushed a lot more but I didn’t need to. I was extremely happy. I kept Rich with me and was encouraging him. He began to struggle at mile 23 but he had helped me and spoke through at mile 15 (where it went wrong in Brighton) that slight doubt! so I returned the favour! When we came in to the stadium I flew I was so happy and had run a whole race with a smile on my face. All The training, early mornings hard work and discipline come Together in three hours and eleven minutes and fifty five seconds of magic! Thankyou for everything!

Love this. Feels like this will be a tough one to beat. I can’t tell you how pleased I am for you as I know how hard you’ve worked and from our very first conversation I knew how important this was to you. This is an experience you’ll never forget. I’m sure there will be quicker marathons in the future, but will they be more enjoyable? And after all this is our hobby right? So finding that blend of improvement and enjoyment is perfection. Feels like you nailed it here. That video of you crossing the line is probably my best moment as a coach so far. I’m grateful you gave me the opportunity to work with you, but also trusting my instincts after Brighton. Between us I think we came up with a new short term game plan which was ideal and in the end proved exactly what you need. Fantastic running Jack!!
