parkrun

LOAD: 30

10 Mins WU @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)
8 x 100 metre Strides (RPE: 8)

parkrun @ 5km Pace (RPE: 8)

10 Mins CD @ Easy Pace (RPE: 3)

Running with others can reduce perceived effort so parkrun is a good option as an alternative speed session. 10 mins easy WU & CD please.

Pacers day so if you fresh another opportunity to have a pop at that sub 20.

ENJOYMENT

👊 Nailed my target

PACE

Yes I was tired today but I often come along on a Tuesday with no energy, feeling run down, and I’m fine once I get going and my legs wake up. Today I hung in there. It was great having Simon Linklater torun with. Fabulous support. I was so pleased with my 3rd and 4th KM, 4’01 and 4’02”. Having started a little quick and with a faster last lap to come all was good. Then with 150m left, just when I was ready to have a kick, and even sprint, my legs just gave up completely. It was like there was no communication between the bones and the muscles. I was walking like a drunk man then I stumbled and fell. I managed to get up and walk to the finish line but then I had to lie down and knew it would be a good while before I’d be moving. A hour or more later I saw Craig and Andy in The Bo Peep. They had been doing the Park Run results and said they’d just been talking about me ,and Andy and Andy said he’d never seen anyone so white, no colour at all. He thought they’d have to fetch the defibrillator. I can barely remember walking from where I fell to the finish line or getting from there to the bench. I was on a slow mend as soon as I sat down. The funny thing is I was telling you how rough you looked when you crossed the finish line the previous Wednesday. You had given everything and got a PB. Apparently I looked considerably worse. Onwards and upwards. Recover well and live a better life. Great run really.
Conal Tracey
Glad you’re ok Conal. Is there anything you could change with your recovery (nutrition & sleep?) that might help. We don’t need to be pushing to that extreme very often and the plan does change slightly. Personally I would get checked out. Maybe just get your blood pressure done at the pharmacy, look into diet and recovery a bit too. Just to make sure there’s nothing up, that may have caused it. It could just be exhaustion, but still a little scary and it’s not my philosophy to push my runners to that point, so was upsetting to see. Hopefully it can be a catalyst for a few small changes which will help you going forward. But always priority your health over chasing targets. Up until that point it was a great run. Jack does a great job pacing but felt like we did go off a little too quick and I could hear you working hard in the first 1200 metres which was a little concern. It’s in the past now, so let’s move on and hopefully an experience you won’t have to endure again, but yes I would always advice getting checked out just to be safe.
